Statista now a WAYF service, through eduGAIN

Statista is an online platform that gathers statistics, market data, and infographics from numerous sources and makes them easily accessible to businesses, researchers, and students. Now, users can access Statista’s resources directly using their institutional login, provided the institution has a Statista license and participates in WAYF. This has been made possible because WAYF, via eduGAIN, has recognised Statista’s registration in our German sister federation, DFN-AAI – all without institutions needing to perform any technical integration with Statista.

The first institution to take advantage of this is Copenhagen Business School, with several others expected to follow soon. This is because Statista is phasing out IP-based access, which has been the standard method until now, and will soon only support federated login. The company aims to improve security and user experience while modernising its user management – a trend many publishers are now following, encouraging clients to move away from EZproxy and IP-based access toward modern single sign-on (“SSO”).

For a WAYF-participating institution, getting started with SSO for Statista is simple: contact your Statista representative, request access via Shibboleth/eduGAIN, and provide your institution’s entityID at WAYF. This ID can be looked up here, or you can contact the WAYF secretariat if you have any questions.
