NAXOS Music Library, Oxford Music Online now WAYF services

The music collections at NAXOS Music Library and Oxford Music Online have just been made available in WAYF via eduGAIN, where they are registered in our German and British sister federations, respectively. WAYF's user organisations can therefore now give their staff and students access to these services directly using their usual institutional logins.

The first institution to take advantage of this opportunity is The Royal Academy of Music Aarhus/Aalborg – which, like many other institutions, is currently establishing direct single sign-on through WAYF/eduGAIN to the publisher resources they are licensed for. This allows institutions to save the costs associated with running an EZproxy, the traditional intermediary between institutional login and publishers, which provides access based on IP address. In the past, this was often the only access technology available from publishers; but today, almost all publishers are part of an eduGAIN federation like WAYF, and IP-based proxies are no longer necessary.

Institutions wishing to access their licenses with Naxos Music Library or Oxford Music Online (or other publishers) via WAYF/eduGAIN simply need to contact their representatives at the relevant provider and express their interest. They are also welcome to reach out to the WAYF Secretariat for assistance with the process – which could lead to eliminating the need for an EZproxy.
