Icelandic Research Information System service now connected to WAYF

The Icelandic Research Information System service has recently joined WAYF, with the National Library of Iceland the service provider. This enables Icelandic researchers to access IRIS and manage their research information there using the familiar user accounts they hold at their institutions. Without these institutions having had to do any technical setup to achieve this.

Connecting IRIS to the federation hub run by WAYF, of which the largest Icelandic universities were already members, was deemed a straightforward solution to the SSO interface of IRIS only being able to connect, at the technical level, to a single identity provider. More Icelandic research institutions are expected to join WAYF as user organisations, to obtain this kind of easy and user-friendly access to both IRIS and the many other online services participating in WAYF or eduGAIN.

With the admission of IRIS, WAYF is seen to play a still larger part in Iceland's infrastructure for research and higher education.
